Hi Jorg

It is very difficult to say which files 'should or should not' be backed =
up in case of a system failure. The best way that I have found is to =
use a 3rd party program such as Drive Image from PowerQuest:

http://www.powerquest.com/driveimage/

If you don't want to splash out that kind of money, XP has a backup =
utility that has several options available via 'Advanced Mode'. There =
are 3 options available there, but you would have to ascertain which =
might be best for yourself.

Personally, I always backup valuable data files to a CD - i.e. Word, =
Excel, Access files.

I would backup the My Documents folder and "documents and
settings" for each user. Everything else should be
replaceable from installation CDs or downloads.

To recover from a system crash, you need a full image of the partition.
