View Full Version : CD Writing Tasks Option Gone!

April 25th 03, 05:14 PM
The CD Writing Tasks Pane after right clicking on the CDRW icon is missing
and consequently the Erase CD option is gone as well.

1.. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2.. In My Computer, right-click the CD recording drive, and then click
Open. Windows displays a temporary storage area where files are held before
they are copied to the CD. Files or folders that are located in the
temporary storage area are listed in the Files Ready to Be Written to the CD
box.
3.. In the CD Writing Tasks pane, click Erase this CD-RW. The Welcome to
the CD Writing Wizard dialog box is displayed. After you click Next, the
Erasing the CD dialog box is displayed and the progress bar displays the
progress of the process.
Following the directions above I don't have the CD Writing Task Pane, in
it's place is File and Folder tasks Pane. Can someone tell me how to fix
this. please?

is the "imapi cd-burning com service" started? click 'start>run" and type
"services.msc", which will open the 'services' mmc console. scroll down to
"imapi cd-burning com service" and look in the 'status' column to see if the
service is started. if this column is blank, you must start the service;
double-click on the service to open its properties, then make sure
"automatic" is selected from the 'startup type' drop-down box, then click
"start" button. this will start the service and mak sure it automatically
starts up with windows.

Hi JCW,

Right-click the CD drive in "My Computer", select properties. Go to the
recording tab, check the line to enable recording on this device.

Rick,
As usual you saved the day. Worked like a charm and I thank you very much. I
would like to know what happened to cause it go away in the first place. At
any rate thanks...

Hi,

Glad it helped. How it got disabled could remain a mystery unless you happen
to repeat the steps that disabled it in the first place, then realize what
you may have done. Seems to happen a lot, I would suspect it occurs in
relation to the installation of some third-party burning software, but
that's only a bit of speculation.
