I have recently purchased Windows XP Professional Edition
and installed it into my pc. My basic pc specifications
are the following:

Processor: Intel Pentium III 733 Mhz
RAM : 384MB

I have an HP deskjet 840C. Being plug and play windows
immediatly already had the drivers for my printer and so
installed them. Till now everything was ok and the
printer was printing fine.

However one day when i tried to print a document the
printer printed ASCII codes. At first i thought that it
was a little gltch put the whole thing repeated itself
over and over again.

So i decided to restore the system by 2 days (even though
i did not install any software on my pc) however the
problem still remained.

Then i tried to reinstall the printer from control panel
by deleting the printer and restarting the system. Still
no luck.

At this point i said to myself that the printer itself
could be damaged so i attached and installed the printer
on my laptop which has a windows XP home edition OS. The
printer worked. So the problem was obviously in the
drivers.

I thus decided to use the CD that came with the printer
to install the drivers that came with it. However XP
would not accept the drivers saying that they where
outdated and unsafe.

So i then went to the HP website and downloaded the
latest drivers regarding deskjet 840C. After installing
them however the problem still remained.

I decided to take more drastic measures. After
uninstalling these drivers i downloaded i used cscript to
acces prndrvr.vbs and delete both the XP and HP drivers.
I then restarted the system and the OS reinstalled the Xp
drivers but to no avail. The printer was still printing
in ASCII.

I would greatly aprecitate if someone would help me
because the only way i can print is by attaching the
printer to my laptop. I don't know what event happened
that caused my printer to start print ASCII

Thank you for your assistance
