I just got an e-mail from "Microsoft" with a subject of "Install this patch
immediately!" and an attachment (which I'm not about to open). The return
address is . My gut feeling is that this is a hoax,
worm, trojan or virus. Anyone else received it or have any info on it?

Microsoft DOES NOT send out e-mails with patches; it ain't from =
Microsoft. You can figure the rest out on your own I'd think.

Many people have received it. It's a well-known hoax. The
attachment almost certainly is a virus.
Microsoft *never* sends out patches by E-mail.

Cooter,
If you viewed the email in Outlook Express, right click it and check the
properties. Remailing list longer than your ...well pretty long anyway.
To think that out there, somewhere, there may still be innocents who think
that MS would personally email them.
It's touching really...

It is a hoax. The attachment contains a Worm, Bug,Virus, etc. Block the
sender and delete the whole thing. Microsoft nor most other legitimate
companies does not sent any type of software via E-mail attachments.
