When I try to see the properties of an installed printer
that I have been using for months I now get an error
message that the print spooler is not running. What
happened????

Try starting it.... from the command prompt, type
net start spooler
(and hit enter)

See MS Knowledge Base Article 324757, altho I am still not
able to start print spooler using below method nor thru
Manage from My Computer. My problem is related to a
Lexmark print service per article, but even after doing
all the steps, can't start spooler...still shows LexBce as
dependency under properties of the spooler...ideas?

Ah, you should have mentioned the dreaded "L" word before now.
Yes, follow Bruce Sanderson's method of how to blitz the Lexmark... pay
particular attention to his section on Lexmark printers and you should be
fine.
