If you are piggy packing the two parallel devices that will not work... XP
does not support this type of connection.
One (or preferably both) need to move to USB connections.

The scanner you have is parallel port ONLY. You'll need to purchase a new
scanner.... the cheapest in the Canon range is the LIDE20... about $50
http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3384962
I've seen offers at Outpost where this scanner has sold for as little as
$29. You can of course find refurbished ones or used ones (EBay) for much
less. If you're happy with the 630, any of the cheaper USB scanners will
leave you in 7th heaven!
There are better and faster ones (especially if you have USB2.0 ports on
your PC) but they are higher $s.

Cari
I will appreciate you advice me again, cannon is telling
me that I need to check the parallel port mode because is
not set for EPP or bi-direccional mode in my computer
bios, I do not know how to do that setting, or it is
better to buy a new scanner. Thanks again.

The settings for the LPT port have to be changed in the BIOS. You'd have to
look in your PC manual for the exact keypress to enter the BIOS... it
differs on each PC.
