John your trouble sounds similar to mine.
Try reading newsgroup problem/reply sent 12/20/2003 12:32
I'm using and older modem and the XP checks ok and driver
is ok. However, I cannot send because it usually says "no
answer" after going all the way to the end of the routine.
I'm going to either try using another generic driver or
get another modem. good luck! Stew
