my question is why is it so difficult to find a toll free
customer service number so that the people that don't
understand their computers or the programs can be walked
through how to do things?

Because NOT UNDERSTANDING, is not a problem. Microsoft, and other companies,
are not computer software instructors. You "ARE" expected to learn. Every
program has a help file. The operating system has an "extensive" help
section. There are many books and web sites you can use for tutorials.
Allow the customer service reps to handle the "real" problems (of which
there are more than just a handful), caused by people who screw up their
computers.

Those companies who do not understand their customer's needs shall soon
perish. Yes even Microsoft
