View Full Version : Share Fax Modem?

I have two computers at home that are on my home network.
One computer is running Windows 98, Second Edition. This
computer has a fax modem installed in it. The second
computer is running Windows XP Professional and does not
have a modem.

Prior to installing XP, both PCs were running Windows 98
and I was able to send a fax from either machine using the
only modem in the system. Now that I have installed XP, I
am unable to fax from the XP machine (no modem).

Is there a way for both machines to share the modem? If
so, what must I do? Thanks.

AFAIK, Windows XP Fax can only serve as a client for SBS Fax and Windows
2003 Server Fax. I would assume you are running the old Microsoft Fax on the
Win 98 box.

Yes, I am runnning Microsoft Fax on the Win 98 box. Sorry
to be so dense about these things, but I guess you are
telling me that I am out of luck. Thanks for the response.

Afraid so. Sorry. Even if you upgraded to Win XP Fax, it no longer supports
sharing.
