Have a brand new dell running windows XP pro. Tried
hooking up our old HP Deskjet 540, with the origonal
installation disks. Got a "file missing" error. Bought a
new printer, HP PSC 1210. Get 50% through installation,
then get a 'The Required Section Was Not Found in the
INF' error.

Contacted HP, tried to follow the steps they provided
(see below) but the add new hardware wizard never gives
me the option to "make sure the option Search for a
suitable driver for my device is selected, and then click
Next." The new hardware wizard just says "installation
failed" and never gives me an option to check or uncheck
anything. Also tried manually installing, but there are
only a few HP printers on the list, even after I did an
update.

HELP!!

HP INSTRUCTIONS:

Restart the installation and follow the onscreen
directions to install the software.

If a message appears stating that the software is already
installed, select the option to remove it.

If the software installation will not begin and the
software cannot be uninstalled, download and run the HP
Software Cleanup Utility.

When the system finds a new device, it will display the
Found New Hardware Wizard. If Windows is looking for one
of the devices listed above, make sure the option Search
for a suitable driver for my device is selected, and then
click Next.

On the Locate Driver Files window, remove all checkmarks
under Optional search locations and then click Next.

When the computer has finished searching, it should
display a file in the search results. Verify that the
file is located in the inf folder of the Windows
directory and then click Next.

If the file is not located in the inf folder of the
Windows or WinNT directory, click the Back button to try
to locate the correct file again.

When the file is located, click Finish to close the Found
New Hardware Wizard.

Uninstall all the printers first....

Then try once more with the new printer... after the reboot, install the new
printer's software and do NOT connect it to the PC until the software tells
you to do so.
