View Full Version : resetting desktop

I have such a strange behavior - and it's getting worse - which is even
stranger for software. I know mechanical part wear out - but software ???
here it is:
I have changed some elements on the desktop - rename my computer and network
my network places and set new icons for the trash can.
for a long time this was fine, now some month ago at irregular intervals -
ever few weeks then days these items were reset to their original values.
I set them again to what I want them to be, and it was good for some time
and then suddenly the original values were back.
and that happens more and more often - now sometimes several times a day.
what could that be???
I tried to make the registry keys read only but that also seems to get
reset.
could that be some kind of policy? I can not come up with something that I
might have changed since that started to happen.
thanks for any info because that is getting irritating ;-))

Hi,
This one has been a bit of a mystery. For some users this has helped: It
also includes Save Settings on Exit.
Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
Good luck and keep us posted.
