Just switched to Windows XP-- in my old Windows 98, when I printed something, I got a status box, showing level of inks left-- now there is none. Is there any way I can get a running account of ink left in printer??

go to your printer website and download new xp driver.
this "might" have ink level. however the printer should
have a separate utility with maintainance tools that have
ink level.

This has never been anything to do with the operating system, but is a
function of your printer driver. If your manufacturer has chosen not to
support XP (HP, for example, seem to discontinue their units with monotonous
regularity), then you will not have any form of ink monitor (I never did
with my Epson SC900 - I did download a supposed working monitor from the US
site, but it only really functioned 50% of the time and the rest it would
just error out), so I just had to guess...
AFAIK, there is no solution other than purchasing a fully XP-compatible
system (this is what I had to do - I purchased a Canon i9100 which - I
hope - will have a little bit of longevity).

If it produces photos anything like the i950, the only problems you'll have
are constantly replacing ink cartridges and photo paper because the results
are so good, you just HAVE to keep printing more! And your's will be bigger
pages than mine!!!!! I have the results framed all round my house.... I'm
running out of wallspace.... need a bigger house or an extension to this
one! The images are superb.

Well it's the i950's bigger brother, so what you reckon? ;o) I've been doing
some work for my grandfather and I'm already on my third set of carts (only
had it a month!) - I'm now saving for a digicam (the two models I've got my
eye on are also Canon). I will, eventually, also have to replace my trusty
Epson 1240U scanner as it's just about on its last legs - and I'm looking at
CanoScans too!
I've not bought any A3 paper yet, as I've not had the need...I *REALLY* need
a camera! ;o)
Blessings for the New Year, hon...
