Reset desktop settings

Is there a way that Windows desktop settings can be easily
reset to specified default values after use, so that only
required icons are displayed, recycle bin is emptied, etc?

Kind of. It doesn't empty your recycle bin, but it does clean up your
Desktop icons for you:

- go to Display Properties (right-click the desktop, go to Properties)
- click the Desktop tab
- click Customize Desktop ...
- click "Clean Desktop Now"
