View Full Version : Administrative Tools icon does not work

Hi:

In the Control Panel, if I click on the Administrative Tools icon, nothing
happens. I am running Windows XP Pro. Perhaps this has something to do with
the fact that when I power up, the system does not ask me to click on a
user because no users are shown. The OS just boots up without any user
intervention.

By the way, my OS was installed as an upgrade over Windows 98SE.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

Type "control userpasswords2" on the run command without the quotes.
Highlight all or any accounts in the box and make sure box is checked to say
that users must provide password at login. Log off or reboot to check for
security. If it continues in without prompting just create an account within
XP by way of control panel.

Check to see if you have this folder. This is where the admin. tools are
kept.

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative
Tools"

Yep, got all of those folders.

Thanks, Martin.

I ran the "control userpasswords2" command and got 3 user names:
Administrator - Administrators Group, Guest - Guests group, and my name -
Administrators Group. Each one of them have "Users must enter a user name
and password ..." checked.

Still am unable to make anything happen by clicking on the Administrative
Tools icon.

What do you mean by "Log off or reboot to check for security?"
