Documents lost!

I moved my docs to a server from a Win98 machine, then
moved the same docs from the server to my new machine
(XP). It appeared to do the right thing. On trying to
access the files I discovered that only the folders had
been copied yet there were no files inside them. I t does
not make sense. How does it recreate folders and sub
folders and yet not move the contents of the folders? Help
