View Full Version : Desktop.ini file, Now a Desktop Icon?

I've used Windows XP since its release. I've always chosen the option in
Folder Options: Show Hidden Files or Folders, for many reasons. I just got
a new system with Windows XP SP1 installed. On this new system, when I opt
for the above option, an icon for the Desktop.ini file appears on the
Desktop. I'm assuming that this has something to do with the SP1 version of
XP, because that icon has never appeared before, on any of my XP systems,
when I've chosen to Show Hidden Files or Folders. Is there any way to hide
that icon, which isn't a shortcut, but an icon for the file itself, without
having to opt for Do Not Show System Files or Folders?

I've seen that on every XP system I have set up where I did a clean
install. I just delete it.
