Of course you have all of the same problems. You put a dress on a pig, but underneath it is still a pig. backup your important documents and files then format and do a clean install. BTW when installing XP remove all cards from you PC except the video.
Then after the instal in complete insert a card and resart XP, let it find the drivers and then shutdown and do it again until all cards are reinstaled. Have fun it is pretty painless.

Well, understood perfectly for trying not to get into a clean installation
although it is the best practice.
So you may try the following for the last time before you bite the bullet:
(1) Try every applications installed in the system and for those do not work
properly, re-install it again in XP
(2) Run windows updates includes SP to make sure all XP initial bugs and
problems have been properly updated
(3) Get all XP drivers for your hardware and remove the original ones and
re-install the new ones.
If then cannot solve your problems - well, take it and do a clean
installation.
