Hey Rick,

Here us what I get when I use bootcfg/scan:

1
OS Load Options: 1
OS Location: C/Windows

2
OS Load Options: (this is blank)
OS Location C:/Windows

3
Microsoft Windows XP Pro
OS Load Options: /fast detect
OS Location C:/Windows

I used boot /default and now boot /scan lists this:

1: C:\Windows

When I tried to reboot it shows:

1
1
Microsoft Windows2000
Microsoft Windows XP Pro

I did your rebuild suggestion thing before trying any of this and it
asked for:

Add installation to boot list: Y/N
enter load identifier:
enter OS Load Option:

I entered the following:

Yes
1
fast detect

rebooted and the following:

1
1
1
MS Windows2000
MS Windows XP Pro

As you can see I'm trying to do this on my own but am getting nowhere.
I think I'll just wait for a response from you. Thanks again.

Hi Jay,

Each time you enter "1" for the load identifier, you are creating a new load
instance, or adding a line to boot.ini. Instead, at this point run fixboot

I really appreciate your patience with this thing. I really do.

What I did:

Ran recovery mode
bootcfg /rebuild
Add Installation...? Yes
Enter Load Identifier: fixboot
Enter OS Load Options: fastdetect (I got this from the list of options
when I ran bootcfg / list)

After rebooting there are several options with "fixboot" at the
beginning so I chose that one and I still get the Win2000 error
screen.

I must be missing a step or something. The more you offer the more I'm
learning.

Thanks again.

Hi Jay,

Run fixboot, not bootcfg, from the C:\> prompt.

Good Morning Rick,

Thanks for the input but I went ahead and reformatted and reinstalled.
I have another question but will put it to the group and give you a
break.

I appreciate all of your help.
