I have been trying to install Office 97 Pro on a new Compaq running XP home. I have tried the compatabilty test in Properties, etc. and keeping keep getting an error message that there is a problem with NTVDM.EXE and that XP wants to send an error messag
e to Microsoft. I realize its an older program but it's licensed and I'm frustrated. thanks

http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/uk/Pages/tipstrickswinXP_869.htm l'il bit
of info in here but, not much.

NTVDM and WOW are the processes used to simulate a Windows 95 environment
within NT.

There's lots of pages on the web covering ntvdm.exe problems, haven't
located one re. Office 97 and ntvdm yet.

regards, Richard

Hi,
Windows NT-based computers use the Virtual DOS Machine (NTVDM) to run
MS-DOS and 16-bit Windows applications.
Troubleshooting MS-DOS-Based Programs in Windows

"16 Bit MS-DOS Subsystem" Error Message When You Install a Program

Office 97 runs well in XP except the spelling error problems in OE.

I have Office 97 running well under XP. I did a full install of office,
accepting the defaults (i.e., no customization). However, I then applied
service pack #2 for Office, before attempting to use it. SP-2 for Office 97
is available as a free download from Microsoft. Look on the Office website,
not the Windows website. Note that Outlook 97 will not work under XP, so do
not try that. WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint work fine.
