New PC with modem, question

Hi

just built new pc for mate (Win XP), put in modem and it connects ok but
there is no icons in corner of screen to say its connected and therefore I
cant disconnect easily.
Any ideas?

I'm not positive about this but take a look in the control panel under
modems, do a check of the properties and see if there is a check box for
showing a icon in the tray when connected.

On my LAN connection....

Control Panel
Network and Internet connections
Network Connections
Right click the connection and select properties
General Tab
at the bottom there is a tick box
"Show icon in notification area when connected"

Delete BOX to get my real email address
