Back in the days of DOS, the PrintScrn key used to print the
screen. But in all versions of Windows, this works differently,
and the name of the key is now an anachronism.

To use the key, press it to capture an image of the entire
screen, or press alt-PrintScrn to capture an image of the active
window. Either one captures the image to the Windows clipboard.

Once it's in the clipboard you can paste (Ctrl-V) it into any
application that supports graphics (Windows Paint, other graphics
programs, even your favorite word processor). You can edit or add
to the image as you wish, then print it.

This ability to manipulate the image in a program before printing
it is an improvement over the original DOS method of just
printing it. But if you'd like that old facility back, there are
several third-party freeware/shareware programs that can do this.

Greetings --

Pressing the <PrtScn> key copies the entire display to the
clipboard. Pressing <ALT>+<PrtScn> copies only the active Window to
the clipboard. To view the screen capture, open a graphics program,
such as MS Paint, and press <CTRL>+V. This will paste the contents of
the clipboard (your screenshot) into the open file, and allow you to
view it or save it as a file for later use.

Kevin,
You're almost there.
Printscreen on its own will copy a full screen image to the clipboard. Alt+
Printscreen will just copy an image of the active window.
You need to then paste it into an application that will let you view images,
then 'print' from there (MS Paint for example)
In the days of DOS when screen images were text it would do what it said on
the tin - but then, just look what happened to the humble 'sys req' key.
Hope this helps

Kevin,
A screenshot [screen capture] is moved to the Clipboard. To see it and print
it, open any graphics handling program (Paint, Word, Notepad, Wordpad, etc)
and paste it.

I sent you a previous answer with some info. Here is maybe a better
solution. Any "Cut", "Copy" or "Print Screen (PrtScn)" command in the
Windows operating systems sends the image to the Clipboard. The Clipboard
only keeps one image at a time The minute you again execute any one of those
commands the new image replaces the previous. No previous ones are saved.
At least three ways to save an image:
A. Print it.
B. When you Paste it into Word, Notepad, etc,, save it to My Documents.
C. The ClipBook Viewer:
(1) Open it from: Start/Run/type "clipbrd" less quotes and click OK.
The ClipBook Viewer will appear reflecting the most recent clipboard entry.
Read the Help information about saving or printing stuff from here.
(2) If you use the ClipBook Viewer much, put a Shortcup to it on your
Desktop by doing this;
[a] Right-click a blank space on your Desktop and select: NEW
and SHORTCUT.
[b] In the Create Shortcut window, type in: "ClipBook Viewer"
less quotes, and click "Finish"
[c] A ClipBook Viewer shortcut icon will appear on your Desktop.
D. You can also get "Clipboard Buddy", a free utility, which will will keep
the last twenty Windows Clipboard entries unless you delete some or all of
them.

This is to correct a typing error in C(2)(b) below: correct "ClipBook
Viewer" to read "CLPBRD.EXE", and then click "next". In the subsequent
window [I am correcting C(2)(c), type in "ClipBook Viewer", and click
Finish. Sorry, got in a hurry.
