Outlook express question

I am using Outlook Express 6 with windows xp home edition. Recently I have
encountered a problem with outlook. Anytime I add an address to my blocked
senders list the computer just ignores it and I continue to receive all this
spam mail. For example I keep getting people from Nigeria inviting me to
invest in their schemes and I keep getting messages to install the latest
Microsoft security patch. I know for a fact that the Microsoft one contains
a virus because I have seen it mentioned elsewhere and Microsoft do not send
personal email to customers. This is really starting to annoy me so I was
hoping someone could suggest a solution.
