Is SP2 just XP+SP1+updates?

If so, then I guess I have SP2 (since my PC is completely up-to-date).

Or is there something else?

Service Pack 2, like SP1, is (or rather, will be, because it isn't released
yet) a collection of fixes and updates for Windows XP, rolled up into one
package. It is cumulative, so it includes all the fixes in SP1 and all
others. Service Packs don't include XP itself - in order to use the service
pack you must already own a licensed copy of Windows XP.

To clarify, the Microsoft XP release schedule looks like this, over time:

[2001] Windows XP released ("Gold")
[2001] Various patches, security updates, etc etc
[2002] ditto...
[2002] ditto...
[2002] Service Pack 1 released, either as a web download, on CD from
Microsoft, or included in new purchases of Windows XP. Service Pack 1
contains all the patches released since XP Gold, plus several more.
[2002] Various patches, security updates, etc etc
[2003] ditto...
[2004] ditto... <---YOU ARE HERE :)
[sometime mid-2004] Service Pack 2 to be released. Again, Service Pack 2
contains all the patches/fixes released since XP Gold, plus several more.
SP2 will be offered as a single download from microsoft.com, or via Windows
Update, or will no doubt be offered by Microsoft on CD for registered XP
users.

If you've been to Windows Update and no more updates are available for your
system, then you're as up-to-date as you can be at this point. However, you
do not have SP2.

Hope this explains things.

You answered your question YOURSELF: NO !!!
SP2 will incorporate MUCH MORE than just recent patches.
Do you read comp magazines or have internet ?
If you can answer either question with yes, you should have known better.
In Internet you could have found:

There will be more. It's still in early beta so some things may not yet be solidified. However you can find information on some of the changes coming in SP2 here:

Hey Ralf,
Do you realize what an unfriendly guy you are?
In case you don't : read your answer to Bobby again.
If everything can be found elsewhere, then what is the use of this news
group?

One other important thing that SP2 will provide, a whole new set of
problems. Anyone care to guess how long SP2 will be out before the first
update to it will be released?.

There weren't any major problems with SP1 when it came out. The number one
cause of problems on a PC is the user.

Hi David,
This shows that software is made for computers, not for users ......

According to MS, it is SP1 + updates and mostly address security issues.
However, I also believe that they will put in a lot of bug fixes into and
maybe new drivers.
I guess no one is really sure until it's being released.

SP2 will be more than just the updates that have so far appeared as
candidates for it. But it is currently in Beta test and not generally
available (and I would not install a leaked copy on a production
machine).
