AMD Athlon 64 FX vs. Intel P4

Between AMD Athlon 64 FX and Intel P4 which would you prefer? I also have the following questions about the AMD Athlon 64 FX.

Can the AMD Athlon 64 FX cpu run 32-bit programs?

Can you upgrade to a AMD Athlon 64 FX cpu from an AMD Athlon XP 2800+?

Unless you install 64-bit applications designed to utilize a 64-bit
processor, there is no advantage. Microsoft has not yet released a
64-bit version of Windows XP that supports the AMD 64-bit CPU.
The Intel P4 CPU makes much better sense for desktop users.

The AMD Athlon 64 FX CPU is backward compatible and will run both 32
and 64 bit programs. Upgrading from an Athlon XP 2800+ to the new
AMD Athlon 64 FX cpu will require a new motherboard.
