Another way is to use the Windows Catalog for obtaining
your updates. That way you can select the ones that you
need and download them to your harddrive for a copy.

To use the Catalog site, go to the updates site as you
normally would. Click on "Personalize Windows Update".

Check the box "Display the link to the Windows Update
Catalog under See Also"

Then back on the main menu (left side) under "See Also"
Windows Update Catalog will be listed.

Clicking on tnis link will take you to the catalog where
you can select the OS and see a list of recommened and
critial downloads/updates.

The list is extensive and contains everything for XP
(original release, SP1...etc).

One way to determine what you need, would be to use the
regular auto update method to scan your system and build
a list of the updates and then print out the list, but
instead of downloading the auto way, use the list to pick
from the catalog list.
