Hello,
My home computer with XP Pro used to boot directly to the
desktop after I turned my computer on.
However, after installing some updates, it now takes me
to a log in screen before the desktop.
The screen says, "To begin, click your user name."
I am the only user.
How can I get XP to go directly to my desktop again
instead of pausing at this log on screen?
Thanks,
Jeff

Ramesh,
Hello! I followed your directions exactly and now after
the initial black Windows XP screen, the blue screen
says "Windows is starting up..." but it gets stuck on
that screen and goes nowhere. I have been waiting 10
minutes now (after a reboot) and nothing is happening!
Help! I cannot even get to my desktop now!

You may have entered a wrong password in Userpasswords2. Press ALT-TAB =
to see any logon error messages.=20
If you are able to login after that:=20
Goto Userpasswords2 screen and retype the correct password.
Or, download TweakUi from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP).=20
Expand the Logon branch, and click Autologon.
Turn on the Log on automatically at system startup option, type your =
username and password, and click Ok.
If you are unable to logon:
Hold down the SHIFT key when Windows restarts and login as =
Administrator. Retype correct password in Userpasswords2 applet.

I don't have or use a password to log on, so how can I
have typed in the wrong one?

Ramesh,
Nevermind. The problem was that I never created a
password so that change you suggested didn't work.
I went into user accounts, created a password and now the
computer boots straight to the desktop.
Thanks for your help!
