I am going to sell my computer soon, and have been told I
need to format and re-install XP, so to lose any
information about myself. How do I do this? I have the
original XP disc.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD and pay careful
attention to the on-screen instructions and prompts. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process.

You do it as part of a reinstall of the system after booting the XP CD
direct. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement take New Install.
When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete the
current partition and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next
stage

The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one. During installation
you will be asked to set up a user account - use a basic name (makers
often call it 'Owner')

Then get on the net and activate the system afresh, so there will be no
problem if the new owner does not get to it within 30 days. You will
need to include the CD and the Product Key with it (and not try to use
that Key for anything else).
