I recently installed Win XP Pro on my IBM Aptiva. The
computer came with Win 95 and has on "on board sound"
card or chip on it. (crystal audio). Since upgrading to
XP I cannot use the sound dial mounted on the monitor,
doesn't recognize it, nor can I get any sound. I require
a patch or update for this driver but can't find any. I
contacted IBM and they basially said it wasn't there
problem, they fix things back to their original state,
anything upgraded is at the users risk. Any
suggestions. The model no. is 2142-S61.

Windows 95 is not a supported upgrade path to Windows XP. Also, a machine
originally configured for Windows 95 is likely to have much incompatible
hardware as you are now finding.

The fix is to update the affected hardware and software. If there are no
drivers available then you must replace the hardware device. Given they
system description, you would be better off to replace the computer or go
back to Windows 95 which will run much better on that system than Windows
XP.
