I would like to start fresh and uninstall my windows XP
and re-install. I try to format C drive from DOS but get
a message "Volume is being used by another process" How
can I fix or get around this

Go into your motherboards bios and change it to boot from CD. The XP cd is
bootable and you can format and then install from there.

Just boot from the Windows XP CD and follow the prompts for a
clean installation. It will do the reformat for you.

Would you attempt to replace your car's engine while it was still
running? You can't wipe out the drive that the Format program is on
while Format is running either!
Boot from you XP CD. It contains all the tools you need to do what
you desire.
