WHAT IS IT?
The Microsoft Product Support Services Security Team is issuing this alert
to advise customers to be on the alert for this virus as it spreads in the
wild. Customers are advised to review the information and take the

Me too! Next time I'm buying Apple. I had to post a
question to get rid of "Microsoft Pop-ups" and now I'm
getting virus e-mails. It's ridiculous!!!!!! Were it
not for their pop-ups, I'd not be getting these virus e-
mails!!!!! No sender e-mail included.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of those E-mails are PHONY...
EACH one has a new virus attached, DO NOT OPEN
any of them, and update your virus defs if you need to.
Same thing happened to me in my yahoo E-mail.
Luckily yahoo gives me free NAV to scan with.

We wish it was that easy, it isn't MS but a virus writer who
hates MS who wrote the virus that uses harvested email
addresses and "official" looking from and subject lines.
BTW, It is rude to type in all CAPS.

You did not receive an update notification from Microsoft. You
received a virus-laden email message from a devious imposter!
A devious imposter is "spoofing" Microsoft and attempting to deceive you
into installing a malicious VIRUS in your computer! Delete the VIRUS
laden message immediately!
Microsoft never sends file attachments with email messages!

First of all, note that you are not addressing Microsoft here.
This is a peer support newsgroup; we are all just XP users trying
to help each other.
Second, none of the messages you have gotten have come from
Microsoft, although they appear to.
Third, the reason you are getting these is that the virus
harvests E-mail addresses it finds in newsgroups like these.
Because of the risk of that, and other things, you should not use
your real E-mail address in newsgroups.

It is a well known fact that caps are indeed harder to read for most people.
Now it may be easier to you but you risk a lot of people not reading your
posts. And as others have mentioned it is not proper netiquette. Let me go
on.
All caps in email ARE annoying. It hurts the eyes and loses much in
tone of voice. I can understand closed caption services, because they
don't have the time to use the shift key to translate verbal
communications, -- speed of voice -vs- speed of the communication
vehicle (i.e. typist) - are unequal -- thus, caps are necessary. However,
in normal email transaction, people *do* have the time (in most cases)
to write their messages. In historical/present business letter writing
(using a typewriter) it is not acceptable to type a letter all in upper
case.
I generally take a message that is in all upper, or reversibly, all in
lower case, to mean that the person was in a hurry and did not have the
time, nor the inclination to write the letter with thought, content,
feelings nor respect for the recipient. They were just trying to hurry
up, or were ignorant as to how aesthetically annoying it is to read block
white letters consistently throughout an email message. Thankfully I don't
need glasses at present -- if everyone wrote in UPPERCASE LETTERS
THROUGHOUT, I'd have an ophthalmologist sitting in my back pocket.
If I was to type.. I WILL NOT WORK ON SUNDAYS. Granted - it makes the
point.
However, if I write -- I will NOT work on *Sundays*.. I believe - makes
a stronger point and highlights the words to a stronger degree. Also,
it makes the statement, that I tried harder to emphasize my thoughts
as opposed to writing my thoughts out quickly (get your thoughts out
faster while being lazy at the same time).
Writing in upper and lower case allows for a more emotional understanding
of content on the recipients end. Just getting your thoughts
across bluntly without emphasizing words or letters, would lose a
great deal of the humanistic culture of the Internet. I'm not a
machine that transposes my thoughts.. I'm human -- with feelings,
emotions, emphasis and ideals.. If the shift key is broken on your
keyboard - it's not *that* expensive to replace it.. I believe that it
is preferable to spending the money on a new keyboard, then to have someone
believe you are either lazy, ignorant or robotistic in feeling.
Faster is not always better, and quality is almost always better than
quantity. :-)

Hell! Whenever I see a message in "ALL CAPS". I block the sender and delete
the message group. This way I won't ever have to see the O/P's drivel again!
Works for me!

so, I choose to add you to my kill file so I do not have to read them.

I am going to take up for Lonnie. I learned very early on about the caps
thing, even thought I thought it was not that big if a deal. I use to write
in caps back 15 years ago and liked it, still do for that matter, but was
informed of the problem. As far as it being hard to read, I disagree, I
think it is easier. So, stop jumping on this person and be nice.

Lonnie,
Having had several years graphic training and a lifelong interest since, let
me assure you that reading a text that is all caps is HARD.
If you have vision problems, you are not doing yourself (or us) any favours.
You probably think it's easier because of the increased size, but really
you'd be better off setting your font display sizes up a notch or two. Trust
me on this.
All the best,
Chek

Why?
He claims he already knows it's not polite to post an all caps. but he is
going to do it anyway.
Basically he is thumbing his nose at the rest of us and being rude on
purpose, so why should we be nice to him?
And his claim that it is easier for him to read is hogwash!
You do not post to go back and read it yourself, you post for others to
read.
As Spock would say, "his logic is flawed". ;-)
