I was checking e-mail and my screen locked up. I powered
the laptop down and when I went to power back up the
screen is black and the laptop will not respond the laptop
is windows xp and the harddrive is 75% free. Can anyone
help?

Do you get anything at all on the screen? BIOS count; OEM friendly
screen? Can you hit the hotkey and get to BIOS setup? I just had a
laptop stop in its tracks like that - power on runs up the HD but
nothing else at all: major failure of hardware, and I'm pretty sure of
he CPU

To eliminate a "Shorted/Dead" battery, remove it and use the AC
adapter only. Then re-try power up.
