Help! I have somehow managed to drag and drop some
picture files on my desktop and can't get rid of them.
I've tried the following: 1) drag them to recycle bin 2)
created a folder on the desktop and put the picture files
there 3) Dragged the files to an existing folder on the
C drive. No matter what I do, the next time I log on,
the files re-appear on my desktop with a different copy
number associated with them!! Any suggestions?

If recent, you might try using system restore, choosing a date before
the problem began. (It's reversable, should the solution not work.)
Start button \ programs \ accessories \ system tools \ system restore.

You might also want to right-click check the properties on these icons
to see if they are protected in some way. Incidentally, I assumed you
meant picture files that you had deliberately downloaded. If there is
any chance that the pictures are there as the result of spyware or
contain advertising, then run Ad-Aware or Spybot (both freeware).
