why does my computer's name default to "Owner" and is
there a way to change this? For example, My folder under
Documents and Settings is listed as owner, even though in
initial setup of the computer, I named it something
different.

Hi Brian,

You can change the Computer's name but not the folders. You would need to
create another profile to do that.

Change Registered Owner and Organization (Line 7)

Change Computer Name (Line 109)

Change My Computer Name to User Name (Line 131)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

For Office XP:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Installer\Userdata\SID\Products\GUID\InstallProper ties

In the left pane change: RegOwner and RegCompany

Once done, naviagate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\C ommon\UserInfo

And rename it: OldUserInfo

Once done navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\W ord\Data and delete the
Data subkey in the left pane.

It's not your computer name but your account name that is shown under
Documents and Settings. While you can't change this account's D&S folder
name, you can use the User Accounts control panel to change the Welcome
Screen name to your name.
