How to make the "Autohide" Task bar actually work

I find no problem with 'Auto hide the Taskbar'

Right-click the Taskbar, select 'Properties', select 'Taskbar' tab, tick box
marked 'Auto-hide the Taskbar', click 'Apply', click 'OK'

Now when your cursor is away from the 'Taskbar' area, the 'Taskbar' will
recede.
When cursor is near the 'Taskbar' area, it will show.

Is this not what you require, if not then you would perhaps want to drag the
Taskbar down to a minimum size (a thin line), but you would not have access
to it until you drag it up again.
