When I go to programs I no longer have a Word icon - the
only way I can start a new Word document is to go to an
already existing document and click New. Can someone
help? I have Windows XP Home Edition.

Reinstall Word from the CD. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc are not part of
Windows, never have been.

Microsoft Word isn't part of XP Home either...Methinks you need to go buy
"Office" if you are needing all those programs like Word and Powerpoint...

http://office.microsoft.com/home/default.aspx

Or, better yet, just do like I did and download a free alternative:

Start | search | winword.exe
When you find it, right click on it, hold, and drag to the desktop - when
you release, say "create shortcut here". You can rename the shortcut if you
want. You can also copy/drag it to your start menu if you wish....right
click on the shortcut, hold it, drag it over to start, programs, and release
it - and specify either Move here or Copy here.

In Word, Help menu - Detect & Repair and tick Restore Icons.

The OP has Word, she said she can start a new Word document by going to an
existing document and clicking New. If she didn't have Word she would be
able to do that.
