How do I set my computer up so that it won't disconnect
me from the internet if I am idle for more than 45 min?

In all probability, it's your ISP that's disconnecting you, not
your computer. Contact your ISP and ask them how long you can
stay connected without their doing this.

Michelle,
You need to increase or disable the 'idle' feature in Internet Options and
for your modem.
Right click the IE icon on the desktop , select 'properties' then
>connections>settings >advanced. Don't forget to 'apply' and 'ok'.
Also check start>control panel>>phone and modem
options>modems>advanced>change default preferences. Again. don't forget to
'apply'.
Hope this helps,

Almost all dial-up and PPPoE DSL ISP's do this.
I use the net quit a bit so for the .60 to .75 cents a
day I just switched to cable access.
