XP is unable to close the process version.exe whenever I
try to shut down and I have to close it manually. Anyone
know what's wrong?

A quick Google for "version.exe" doesn't bring me anything I think will
be useful. So, do a couple of things: First, do a search on your hard
drive for "version.exe". Perhaps the folder it is in will give you a
clue as to where it comes from. You can also try right-clicking it and
then left-clicking "Properties" to see if there is a Version tab - that
sometimes has the mftr.'s name. Second, since you didn't say whether
you have done this or not, I have to tell you to do the standard
Windows troubleshooting like so:
1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update these programs before running,
and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode.
When you know your computer is virus and spyware-free, if you still have
the problem and/or need more help, please post back. Include whatever
information you've managed to find out, as well as what you've already
done to troubleshoot.
Cheers,
Malke

Thanks, great advice. "version.exe" turned out to be an
MFC file (possibly corrupted) and simply moving it out of
the system directory structure took care of the problem.
Thanks again.
