Good morning!
I noticed a most peculiar thing when I was altering the
target property of a shortcut while using Windows XP.
The shortcut was originally created using NT 4.0, and
resides out on a common drive in a file server. The
shortcut was necessary to ensure that a database was
opened with the correct version of Access (97 and 2002
were loaded on the same machine). The property looked
just like this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\MSACCESS.exe" "C:\Database\DB.mdb"
Using a different machine that has Windows XP, I edited
the shortcut to look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10
\MSACCESS.exe" "C:\Database\DB.mdb"
But when I went back to the NT 4.0 machine, the shortcut
looks like this!
C:\Progra~2\Micros~1\Office10
\MSACCESS.exe "C:\Database\DB.mdb"
Notice that I not only lost my first set of quotation
marks, but I now see the DOS version of the path of the
application that I want. The shortcut is now unusable on
the NT machine.
When I return to the XP machine, the link looks just it
did when I made my edit.
Unfortunately, I'll be in this blended O.S. environment
for some time. Please advise:
1) Why is this happening?
2) How do I compensate?
Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
With regards,
S. Waterman
P.S. Please pardon the duplicate posting: my previous
post on 1/6 is not appearing in this message board for
some reason.
