View Full Version : Print Bios Settings

Is there a way to print the BIOS settings?
I've tried the PrintScrn key while in the BIOS, but with
no luck.
I've also tried a Warm Boot and PrintScrn with no luck.
It would seem that such a critical, changeable componant
would have the ability to record a hard copy list of the
settings.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, you can do a PrintScrn, but you need to understand a couple of things
first.
In the DOS mode (or in your BIOS setup) the PrintScrn works just like it
always did, what is not working in your printer.
Inkjet printers and laser printers print only if they have a "full page" of
data or get a "form feed" command.
The BIOS printscr is not a full page of data and there is no form feed
command given by the computer in this mode.
So, you have to give the form feed command manually.
To print your BIOS setup screen, press the Printscrn button, wait a second
or two, then press the form-feed button on your printer.
You should now get a copy of the BIOS page. Boarders and such graphics will
most likely be replaced with characters such as @@@ or similar since the
printer does not know how to decode graphics in this mode.

you can use printscrn>bios.txt to create and print to a
file.

prtscn will not work with a USB printer. You need an older LPT (parallel
port) printer. My old HP5L works great.

You probably have your printer hooked up to a USB port. The printer
is not going to be "seen" from DOS or from the BIOS setup screens.
Work around:
Temporarily hook up a parallel printer cable from your printer to the
machine. Enter the BIOS setup screen and then do a PrintScrn. Should
work fine.

uuuuuuuummmm.... how are you going to enter the command
"printscrn>bios.txt" from a bios screen? there is no command
interpreter loaded at that point. Also, how will it print to a file
since there is also no DOS loaded at that point, so no file system
drivers....
