I have a 2nd problem now and the 1st problem of my xp
taking several minutes to boot up is still with me??????
Now the xp program will not shut itself off as it always
has. There is a strange box that is supposedly saving
info before shutdown that just keeps repeating its action
no matter what I do so I have to hold in the on-off
switch on the computer every time I want to shut things
down????? The same problem is there every time I shut my
system down. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Since you didn't quote anything about your first problem, I can't get
specific, but it certainly seems like you have a program or process
that is running in the background and misbehaving. Since I don't know
what you did with the first problem (if anything), what does a scan
with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not earlier than
2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also, remove spyware
with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de and Ad-aware
from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs before
running them. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal tools in
Safe Mode.

Post back if you need more help when you know your computer is clean.
Please be sure to include what you've already done to troubleshoot.

Cheers,

Malke
