Employee fired for cause, do not have access to Admin Password on his laptop. Does reinstalling XP allow me to bypass this and gain access to the machine and its files? Worried reinstalling XP will delete files or something. Appreciate any help!!

it depends if the password is set in the bios or in xp.
If it is in the bios you maybe out of luck but if it's xp then doing a clean
install will fix the problem.
Not a repair but a reparation, format then install.

Why doesn't the I.T Dept. have the password, or thier own Admin
password?

There may not be an I.T. Dept. in small to medium size companies.

I found this ino in a different post:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/lostpass.htm
if these don't help you then as a last resort you can perform a Clean
Installation of Windows.

Thanks for the input, I was just concerned that a reinstall would wipe out the files on the laptop.
