I tried copying the system tools folder to my desktop and
by mistake completely deleting the system tools( defrag,
etc.)Have loaded many files since so can go back to
recover registry date. How can I or where can I get the
system tools reinstalled. Have looked on xp cd but guess
they are in a compressed file.
HELP!!
Thanks

I think you MAY have deleted the Folder Shortcut from your
Menu, and left the Folder itself intact.
Look for:
"C:\Documents and Settings\'UserName'\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories"
and see if the Shortcuts are there!
If they are, let us know!

Hope this helps!

Install XP or copy from another computer.

Do this: Start/Run/type "sfc /scannow" less quotes, and click OK. Keep your
XP CD handy. This will perform a "System File Check" which is to verify the
existence of all operating system files and will replace missing ones or
repair corrupt ones utilizing your XP CD.

Don't call yourself 'stupid', when I can do much better!
Please IGNORE my first Reply!!
My Brain went out to Lunch, and was late back - I had to do
a Repair Install!!

QuickCheck:
Start>Run, Type in "dfrg.msc" (without the quotes) and "Enter"
The Disk Defragmenter should start - Close it.
If ok so far, then only shortcuts (not programs) are missing.

Now! Use Windows Explorer to look for:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accesories
Is it there? (I think it will be, but...)
If not, post back!

If it is there, the Folder "System Tools" will be missing - Right-Click
some empty space in the Right Pane, select "New" then "Folder". Name
the new Folder "System Tools". Double-Click "System Tools" to open it -
it will of course be empty.

StartFix:
Right-Click this empty space, choose New, then Shortcut:

In the Create Shortcut Wizard Type:
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A
The Title:
Activate Windows
EndFix:

Repeat this for:

2. %SystemRoot%\system32\ntbackup.exe
Backup

3. %SystemRoot%\System32\charmap.exe
Character Map

4. %SystemRoot%\System32\cleanmgr.exe
Disk Cleanup

5. %SystemRoot%\System32\dfrg.msc
Disk Defragmenter

6. %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\usmt\migwiz.exe
Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard

7. %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30
309D}\::{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}
Scheduled Tasks

8. "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe"
System Information

9. %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe
System Restore

NOTES
In ITEM 7, the characters in braces '{}' comprise ONLY the digits
0-9, and letters A-F.
In ITEM 8, you DO NEED the Quotes.

When Finished, check each one to make sure the entry was correct.

The System Tools folder only contains shortcuts, not the tools
themselves.

Test out Disk Cleanup, which is on the list

RUN
cleanmgr

It would be easy enough to create a new folder with the same
shortcuts, as long as you had the target lines. Example: System
Restore is %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Incidentally, I'm assuming that there isn't a chance that the folder
is still in your Recycle Bin.
