Hi,
Several days ago, I read on a newsgroup (this one I
think, but not sure) that you should periodically defrag
your DVD/CD-RW Drive. Mine is E Drive. I believe it said
to do this through a command prompt. I would like to do
this, however, my command prompt reads:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5_1_26001]
<C> Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\owner>_ (Bar is blinking)

I can type where the blinking bar is, but I can't go
anywhere. There is nothing to click to tell the command to
proceed. How do I fix this and how do I defrag my E
drive? E Drive is not an option in Disk Defragmenter, and
I found nothing in Disk Defragmenter's Help to add this
option. Should I defrag this drive, or am I confused
about what I think I read? Can't find the posting again.
Thanks for helping an old granny....

Press enter to give a command. You don't defrag DVD drives. That's why it's
not an option.

Hi Belle,

Defrag can be done only for hard disk drives and not optical drives.
Defragmenter arranges the data for fast retrieval. It Locates and
consolidates fragmented boot files, data files, and folders on local drives.

Defragmenter Description:

Thanks for the prompt answer, David. Sure don't know what
I read, but I thought it was something about defragmenting
the DVD/CD-RW drive. However, the mind is the first to go.
Have a good evening.....Belle
