View Full Version : Netgear 834 Modem / router

January 8th 04, 05:21 PM
I have just installed a router / modem for my two computers at home but can
now not connect to anyone to use voice or video in messenger.

uPNP is turned on in the router and I am using MSN Messenger 6.1 (the
latest).

What do I need to configure on the router?
TIA
Adrian

Greetings Adrian,

You really shouldn't need to configure anything in the router if it supports UPnP correctly.
If you try using Windows Messenger instead (click Start, then Run, type "msmsgs" and click
OK) to initiate a voice conversation, see if that works. The protocol in MSN Messenger 6.x
is somewhat tweaked and the Netgear may have particular issues.

Also, is the person you're trying to connect to able to establish voice/video conversations
with others?

Thanks for the reply Jonathan - and a happy new year to you!

I have gone into the setup as you suggested to a couple of other people and
have set up a messenger service to use the 10 ports you mention - 6891-6900.
All now seems to be working fine! Is that the correct thing to have done?

Thanks again,
Adrian
