I am trying to get my Norton AntiVirus to do the auto
update and have been told that scheduled tasks can't run
without a password so I have to enter a password in my
account.......
My question is this; I am the only user and I do not want
to have to use the password to get going after I turn on
the computer.....if I enter a password for my acount will
it require me to use it to open my account, or will it
still come up to my desktop ready to go?
Thanks,
Deloy

Hi Deloy,
You can still autologon with a passworded account. Follow these steps:
Start/run control userpasswords2
Uncheck the line requiring a username and password, click apply/ok and
follow the prompts to create a default logon.
On the issue of Task Scheduler, see
Scheduled Tasks Cannot Run with a Blank Password [Q310715]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310715
Also, from MVP Kelly (a workaround):
For Pro: Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Local Security
Policy/Local Policies/Security options.
In the right hand pane (third down). Accounts: Limit local account use of
blank passwords to console logon only. This is enabled by default, disable
it.
For Home: Backup your registry before modifying. Locate the following
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa
Value name: limitblankpassworduse
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0 (disabled) 1 (enabled)
It is enabled by default. Disable it and scheduled tasks should run.
