changing logon screen

I am trying to find out how to customize the look of the
screen by changing the picture (is it a bitmap?)
displayed at logon. Can anyone help me out? I am not much
of a computer whiz, so I need a rather detailed answer.

Fo a search about "Logon Studio", from Stardock. Its easy to make a
personal logon screen,and better, it?s freeware.
