I am wondering how I can make the search companion not
work everytime I double click on a file. This option I
am unable to find anywhere, and it is quit annoying.

Hi,
If you are clicking on a folder and search companion opens up, then you can
fix this by typing the follwoing exactly at Start>Run and pressing enter:

REGSVR32 /i SHELL32.DLL
