Removing device from Device Mgr in safe mode

I have a hp pav 520c W/factory installed XP Home Edition
w/ built in mic. If I remove the sound card VIA AC'97
Audio controller (WDM)from the Device Mgr in safe mode
will it be reinstalled during normal start up? I've tried
everything else I could find to get my mic working even
plugging the mic into a tape recorder. The mic works. In
the sound recorder audio properties the record volume is
grayed out. In the audio wizard no sound is detected.?????

Hi,

if you remove the device in safe mode and if it is plug
and play device then windows xp will prompt you everytime
to install the device when you start up. Make sure that
you have the updated drives for the sound card for win
xp. since you have a 97 model this might not work in XP.
