I have used WordPerfect happily for many years, but have recently changed
over to XP Pro and Word. How can I convert my (MANY) WordPerfect documents
to a format recognized by Word? Opening each one and saving it in Word is
time consuming

Why don't you do it on an exception basis? Only open the files in Word
and convert only when you *need* to read the document or use the
document as a starting point for a new document.

If you really want to do a mass conversion, you could write a short
macro in Word to do it. I also suspect you can buy programs (search
Google) that do mass conversions.

Thanks for the responses, looks like converting on an "as needed" basis is
going to be my best bet.

We had to do this at work and used a program called "Conversions
Plus". This program worked pretty good although when converting a wpd
with a lot of graphics it wasn't great. It would finish the
conversion but some things might not be in the correct
format/spaceing. Also converting Quatro to Excell you have to be
careful. Spread sheets with complicated formula's may have a problem.
All in all, were pleased with the program.
