How many items are you pinning? Reserve this area for
your top 3-5 applicatioins. Use other alternatives for
more than that.

Suggestions:

Set up Small Icons on the Start menu. Increase the number
of programs that can be displayed in the Most Frequently
Used Programs area.

To do this, right click Start and choose Properties.
Click Customize. On the General page, move the radio dot
from Large over to Small Icons. In the section right
below that, enter a larger number (about 11-12). OK your
way back to the desktop.

If a program names creep up into the list that you don't
want, you can right click on it and choose "Remove from
this list." The names will drop off and their places will
be taken up by other program names. I can usually get all
of my most favorite programs into this area for easy
access.

Incidentally, on that General Page, you can opt to
exclude your default internet and email program in
the "pin to area." That would give you 2 more slots in
that area for your other programs.

Move shortcuts for often used programs to a more handy
location: Quick Launch, desktop, a folder in the Start
Menu under Programs.
